About & limitations
WaterAgent is an early-stage groundwater decision-support platform, part of the RFALA ecosystem and initially focused on Morocco.
Purpose
Drilling a well is expensive and the outcome is uncertain. WaterAgent aims to reduce that uncertainty before exploration by showing farmers, landowners and the professionals who advise them what evidence exists for a location and what is still missing.
Current status
This is an early-stage product. For one test area around Oulad Teima, real elevation, land cover, rainfall and topsoil layers are loaded, and wells can be logged by the user. The regional water-storage layer and the geological map are still missing, and are reported as missing everywhere.
Limitations
WaterAgent provides decision support. It does not guarantee groundwater or replace a qualified hydrogeological/geophysical investigation.
- It is not a certified hydrogeological survey and not a well-siting system.
- It does not guarantee the presence, depth, quantity or quality of groundwater.
- It is not a permit, drilling authorization or engineering design.
- It is not a substitute for a qualified hydrogeologist and appropriate field investigation.
- It covers one pilot extent only.
- The wording of the report disclaimer has not yet been reviewed by a local professional.
Before you drill
Speak to a qualified hydrogeologist, and check permits and local groundwater rules with the Hydraulic Basin Agency (Agence du Bassin Hydraulique, ABH) responsible for your area.
